ORG About Fortem

Built by a superintendent who got tired of watching jobs fail the same way

Fortem Contracting is a residential roofing and remodeling company serving San Antonio and the surrounding communities. We are a general contractor, not a lead broker — the person who scopes your job works for the company that builds it.

01 Background

From running builds to running a company

Before founding Fortem, Chase Armstrong spent years as a construction superintendent managing concurrent residential builds and the subcontractor crews on them. Running multiple homes at once teaches you something specific: the jobs that go badly are rarely the ones with bad tradespeople. They're the ones where the scope was never written down, the site was never verified, and nobody owned the schedule.

Fortem was built to close those gaps deliberately. The phase-gated framework, the line-item price list, the verified-completion payment structure, the closeout documentation — none of that is marketing language. It's the set of controls that came out of watching what actually goes wrong on residential jobs.

The name is Latin: fortem, meaning strong or steadfast. It's the standard we hold the work to.

VAL What we hold to

Four commitments, and what each one costs us

Values are only worth stating if they're expensive. Here's what each of ours actually costs us to keep.

Write it down before you price it

We don't quote from the driveway. Scoping a job properly takes hours that a same-day bidder doesn't spend — and it's why our number holds when theirs moves.

Show the math

Line-item pricing means you can see our quantities and unit rates, and question them. It's a more exposed way to sell work. It's also the only honest one.

Tell you the unwelcome thing early

Foundation before finishes. The AC won't carry the addition. You shouldn't live here during the renovation. We say it at scoping, when it's still cheap to act on.

Follow the law on claims

We don't pay, waive, or absorb insurance deductibles — Texas Insurance Code Chapter 707 makes that an offense. Declining that work costs us jobs to contractors who don't care.
